The Jyväskylä University Botanical Garden covers nearly 36 hectares and includes the green spaces of all three JYU campuses: Seminaarinmäki, Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne.
Seminaarinmäki campus garden in Jyväskylä is Finland’s first official, state-funded school garden. Its historic plants form the valuable foundation of the entire plant collection. Seminaarinmäki’s lush, historically layered botanical garden comprises Seminaarinmäki Park, created in the 1880s, and Aallonpuisto, the campus park designed by Alvar Aalto and built in the 1950s and 1970s.
In the area, you will find a variety of historic plants and beautiful meadows.
During the Open Gardens Theme Day, you will find a botanical garden info stand in the front yard of the Lähde Library (Building B) at Seminaarinmäki. The Botanical Garden's coordinator is present on the info stand and around the area during the event and can guide visitors to different areas of the garden during the day.
Grab the best tips for exploring on your own and a map of the area (for free) from the info stand in front of Lähde building (B, University library). In addition, information signs have been produced for the area of Seminaarinmäki garden, for example about traditional plants and campus meadow areas (available in English also).
