You must submit an expert statement (e.g., a medical certificate) that specifies the kind of recommended individual arrangements and the grounds for granting such arrangements. The document must clearly indicate:
- the grounds for individual arrangements (possible diagnoses and other grounds)
- what kind of individual arrangements are recommended
- the applicant's personal informal
- the name of the person issuing the statement and their occupation or expert position
- issue date
If the document is issued in a language other than Finnish, Swedish, or English, you must submit an official translation along with the original language version.
If individual arrangements have been previously recommended to you for higher education studies, please note that the same statement may not suffice for admission purposes.
Professional competence of the person issuing the statement
The person issuing the statement must have sufficient competence to assess your functional impairments and your need for individual arrangements.
Injury or sickness: You must submit a medical statement issued by a doctor.
Hyperactivity or inattention disorder (ADHD or ADD): You must submit a medical statement issued by a doctor or psychologist.
Reading and writing difficulties: You must submit a statement issued by a special education teacher, psychologist, speech therapist, or a medical specialist (e.g., a paediatric neurologist, neurologist, or a speech pathologist). A decision made by the Finnish Matriculation Examination Board (ylioppilastutkintolautakunta) can also be accepted if:
- the document clearly indicates that you have been granted individual arrangements for a matriculation exam due to a reading or writing difficulty
- you are applying for these same recommended arrangements
Period of validity
The period of validity will be determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the permanence of your injury, illness, or learning difficulty. The expert statement should state if the impairment is permanent. If the disadvantage is not permanent, the statement should be issued for a fixed period. The University may demand a more recent statement if the document does not have a validity period or does not specify the permanence of the injury, illness, or the functional defect.
A statement regarding dyslexia will be considered if it was issued to you when you were sixteen or older.
