Jyväskylä University Museum, Soihtu Exhibition Centre

The Soihtu Exhibition Center of the Jyväskylä University Museum is named after the torch depicted in the university's logo. The flaming torch has served as the symbol of the University of Jyväskylä throughout various historical phases. The torch was already used by 19th century teacher seminary students as a symbol of their Finnish national aspirations. The torch, along with its accompanying Latin phrase "Amica veritas" (truth is a friend), symbolizes the light of knowledge, the fervor of science, hope, and enlightenment.

The Exhibition Centre Soihtu also features an art collection donated to the University of Jyväskylä by attorney Jorma Tissari – who spent their childhood and youth in Jyväskylä - and Mrs. Anna-Liisa Tissari.
