In 2004 - 20 years ago - an International Master's Degree Programme in Development and International Cooperation (D&IC) was established in the University of Jyväskylä.
Since then, cohorts of highly motivated students from all over the world have graduated from the programme and spread their positive experiences on JYU, and Finland at large. The programme has gone through better and worse times. It has been modified several times, while resiliently, remained with its core commitment to educate students in expertise for global justice. Later, based on the programme, the discipline of development studies was included in the portfolio of the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. Up to date, three PhDs have been completed in the newly established programme.
Today, we have a multi-disciplinary Master’s Degree Programme DEICO (Development, Education and International Cooperation ), jointly provided by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Education and Psychology.
Every year, the Faculty of Education and Psychology arranges an SDG4 seminar. This year the seminar celebrates 20 years of international Master's studies at the University of Jyväskylä with a theme:
"New expertise for Development and Education – Celebrating 20 Years of International Master’s Studies in Development in JYU".
The seminar will discuss the new opportunities and challenges in providing higher education to achieve expertise for development and education in the contemporary world. We will hear views from distinguished guests and alumni of the programme, and as always, engage with workshops on diverse topics and delve into networking.
