Spinout is where the next ones begin.

This December, student and alumni teams from JAMK and JYU  will take real deeptech inventions from the University of Jyväskylä and build the commercialisation strategy behind them, then pitch it to a jury of investors and venture capitalists.

Two days. Real inventions. Real stakes. Nothing like it has been done in this city before.

What does it mean to commercialise research?
At Spinout, you'll work with real university research and explore how scientific discoveries can create value beyond the lab. Your role is not to become a technical expert overnight, but to identify potential customers, applications, markets, and business opportunities around breakthrough innovations.

Along the way, you'll gain hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork, business strategy, and pitching. You'll tackle the same challenges faced by deep-tech startups and innovation-driven companies, building practical skills that stand out in any career.

What can researchers gain from working with students?

Researchers have deep expertise in their technology and scientific field, while students often bring fresh perspectives on user needs, market opportunities, and emerging trends. They are not constrained by established assumptions and can ask unexpected questions that reveal new possibilities.

Spinout offers a unique opportunity to see your research through different eyes and discover new applications, impact pathways, and commercial opportunities. The ideas generated by student teams may help uncover novel use cases, strengthen industry relevance, and open doors to future collaborations or ventures built around your research.
