Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics grants internship funding for the internships during the year 2026. The internship funding is always paid to the employer. The amount of internship funding is 1800€ for 3 months. The sum is intended to partially compensate the employer for internship costs (salary & statutory pension contributions [TYEL]).
JSBE internship funding can be granted to an internship located in Finland or abroad in a Finnish organization (e.g. Finnish embassies). Internship funding is not a grant for the student, but the funding is paid to the internship placement after the internship period against an invoice.
- It is possible to receive JSBE internship funding for an internship abroad in a foreign organization when it is not possible for a student to receive an Erasmus+ grant or the university travel grant. Funding for an internship abroad in a foreign organization is granted as a travel grant to the student.
Major students of JSBE can apply for this funding for 1-3 months depending on the length of the internship. If the internship is part-time, its duration will be converted to correspond to full-time, e.g. 2 months at 50% working time equals one month of internship. The application period is ongoing as long as there is funding left.
Application process
You can apply for internship funding when your internship plan has been approved and you have discussed with the employer about the possibility of applying for internship funding and agreed on the related salary payment (see detailed information on paying of internship funding at the bottom of this page). Internship funding cannot be applied for retroactively.
Note. If you are going to apply for an internship placement that requires internship funding, you can apply for a preliminary decision on internship funding. In this case, the funding is granted conditionally and you can use it if you get the internship placement you are applying for. If you don't get the internship placement, the funding will be returned to the faculty. However, you can apply for funding again for another internship placement.

Internship funding application form for 2026
Method of selection
Internship funding is granted for suitable internships in the order applications are received. Internship funding can be granted to students who meet the criteria as long as there is remaining funding. Make sure your personal study plan (HOPS) is up-to-date. In the selection, a student's application for internship funding is also taken into account. Applications are processed in the order they are received.
There is no right of appeal against the decision of the dean for the internship funding, University Law (558/2009) § 84, 5.
Payment of internship funding
JSBE does not pay internship funding for an internship in Finland to the student, but the funding is paid to the internship employer against an invoice at the end of the internship period.
The internship funding is intended to partially compensate the employer for internship costs (salary & statutory pension contributions [TYEL]). At the beginning of the internship, the employer, the faculty and the student sign an internship agreement, in which the faculty undertakes to fund the student's internship and the student undertakes to include the internship in their studies. At the end of the internship, the employer invoices the faculty for the amount agreed in the internship agreement.
NB 1: The internship funding compensates the employer for part of their salary costs incurred by hiring the intern. Organizations that require internship funding have already taken it into account in the salary sum, so the student does not (necessarily) receive the internship funding sum on top of the salary paid by the organization.
