Konnevesi grant for thesis writers

The grant enables a five-day working period at the Konnevesi Research Station, including accommodation and meals.

As of 1 February 2025, the amount of the five-day grant is €330.

The grant includes travel between Jyväskylä–Konnevesi–Jyväskylä, covered according to the cost of the most affordable public means of transport (bus).

Accommodation is arranged in shared apartments with private bedrooms. Breakfast, lunch, and an evening meal are provided daily. The apartments are equipped with a kitchen including dishes and appliances (refrigerator, stove, coffee maker, and kettle), as well as bathroom facilities. A wood-heated sauna can be used upon request.

The grant is awarded by the Director of Student and Academic Services. Grants are available year-round, subject to the booking situation at the research station. Availability is best between September and April.

A grant may be awarded to the same student only once per degree. A recipient who has received the grant during the master’s phase may therefore apply again for funding to finalize a doctoral dissertation.

Before applying, discuss with your thesis or dissertation supervisor whether your work is at a stage where working at Konnevesi would advance its completion. Request a statement from your supervisor indicating their support for awarding the grant to you.

Before submitting your application, please note that the reservation must initially be paid by you. The grant will be paid into the applicants bank account after the Konnevesi stay, upon presentation of proof of payment.

Once you have received your supervisor’s support for a Konnevesi working period:

• Fill out the application form in Webropol.
• Fill out the Grant Payment Form (opens as a .doc file) and email it as pdf to Anna Lokka
• Ask your supervisor to email their statement directly to Anna Lokka

Documents should be sent in pdf format via email to Anna Lokka of the Student and Academic services who will prepare the decision.

Once you have received a positive grant decision, you must make and pay for the reservation at the Konnevesi Research Station yourself. The grant will be paid against a receipt for the paid reservation.

The reservation is made and paid for in the Konnevesi Research Station’s booking system: Link to the booking system

• Log in with your JYU credentials (Haka login)
• Select Accommodation from the sidebar
• Enter your preferred arrival date, number of nights (max. four), and select the customer group: Konnevesi grant
• Click Room search and choose your desired accommodation unit by clicking Book.
• On the Products and other info page, add the number of meal packages (max. 5) under Meals / Konnevesi grant.
  • Note that meal reservations can not be made during weekends.
  • Write any dietary requirementsand your arrival time on the arrival day in the Notes or other info field on next page
• Also, add information if you need transportation from the Konnevesi bus station to the research station and back on the arrival and departure days

Be prepared to show the payment receipt at the research station office.

Konnevesi grants are paid to the grant recipient only against a paid reservation. Please be prepared to pay for the Konnevesi reservation yourself in advance.

Once you have paid the reservation, please email the receipt of payment to Anna Lokka. The grant will be paid to the bank account you provided on the Grant Payment Form submitted during the application phase.

Payments are made on the 15th and the last day of each month. Please note that the payment process may take several weeks. Holiday periods may extend processing times.
