Antti Koivula appointed the chair of the University Board of the University of Jyväskylä for 2022–2023

In its organisation meeting on 18 January 2022, the University Board of the University of Jyväskylä appointed Director General, Professor Antti Koivula as the chair of the board. DSc (Econ.), Lic.Phil Hanna Maula was appointed as the vice chair.

“In Finland, we are now living an exceptional transition period, in which the importance of competence, education and research is emphasised,” says Chair of the Board Antti Koivula. “Universities play a key role in this transition by constructing well-being and renewing competence and society. My primary aim as the chair of the board is to support the success of the staff, students, management and board of the University of Jyväskylä as a unified team, and to ensure the University’s strong and constructive connection to local business life and public operators.”

Antti Koivula (DSc (Econ.), occupational psychology, Helsinki University of Technology, 1998) has worked as the Director General of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health from 2015. Before that, he has had a long career in corporate planning and product management duties in Nokia and as a researcher at the Helsinki University of Technology. He also is a member of the advisory board of State Treasury, the board of Hansel Oy, and the executive committee of the Association for Finnish Work.

Hanna Maula (DSc (Econ.), management studies, Aalto University, 2018, Lic.Phil in organizational communication & public relations, University of Jyväskylä, 2004) is Vice President, Communications & Brand at UPM. She has wide experience in communications and marketing as well as research both in Finland and internationally. She has also worked as a communications director for Aalto University and Neste Corporation. Since 2019, Maula has been a board member of the Strategic Management Society of Finland, and she is a member of the advisory board of Helsinki Design Week.

The University Board has seven members. The chair and vice chair are elected from the University Board members from outside the University community. The Board’s duties include, for example, selecting the rector and deciding on the goals, strategy, steering principles and operating regulations of the University’s operations and finances. The Rector serves as the Board’s presenter and the Director of Legal Affairs as the secretary.
