Application is open for the new RADMEP+ Erasmus Mundus Master Degree!

The new RADMEP+ (Radiation and its Effects on Micro Electronics and Photonics Technologies) Erasmus Mundus Master Degree program offers almost guaranteed immediately after graduation in the fields of microelectronics and photonics. RADMEP + is new program but continues RADMEP program foot prints. The application is open until 9th February 2026.

The RADMEP+ program offers studies in two EU-defined Key Enabling Technologies – microelectronics and photonics. RADMEP+'s objective is to educate students in those advanced technologies, providing methodology and introducing practical applications for their implementation in a variety of natural or man-made radiation-rich environments. The main emphasis in the studies is on the effects of radiation when applying these technologies in different radiation environments, such as space, nuclear power plants, and particle accelerators.

The programme is coordinated by Jean Monnet University (UJM) in St. Etienne, France. In addition to the University of Jyväskylä, the other participating universities are KU Leuven (KUL), University of Ghent (UGhent) and Vrije University Brussels (VUB) in Belgium and the University of Montpellier (UM) in France.

Valuable international experience through studies

The students are selected through a joint admission process, and they start their studies at University of Jyväskylä. In the spring semester, the students continue their studies depending on their specialization.

  • Students who have been selected to Photonics track continue at VUB Of UGhent in Belgium and second year Autumn term at Jean Monnet University in Saint-Etienne France.
  • Students who are selcter to MicroElectronics specialization continue First spring term at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) and second Autumn term at the University of Montpellier.
  • Students are selected to their specialization already at the beginning of the program.

Studies are offered at several different European universities.

A secure career path for graduates

Also, students will have the opportunity to do internship for example in some of the programme’s associate partners including international companies, institutes and universities. Program has almost 40 associate partners all around the world. The RADMEP+ program is based on a long-standing research partnership with the organizing universities and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Program offers also workshops during studies and one of these are offered in CERN.

- Most find employment in Europe or nearby regions immediately. Employment prospects for the graduates are good, and there is a clear demand for skilled experts, says JYU International Coordinator Leena Mattila, who is also the local Administrative Coordinator of the RADMEP programme.

RADMEP+ is more versatile program

The RADMEP+ is a new program, and it got Erasmus Mundus funding at 2025. Program follows the footprints of old RADMEP (intakes 2021– 2024) program and has been developed better.

- New program offers better options to specialize in photonics technologies with two new partner universities VUB and UGhent, explains Mattila.

Interested? Apply for the programme!

First application round for the RADMEP+ program has been opened on the 15th of October 2025 and ends 9th of February 2026. Program can offer scholarships for the best applicants but offer also positions for the self-funded students. Program has almost 40 associate partners all around the world.
