Commercial Counsellor Antti Määttä new chair of the Board of Jyväskylä University Foundation
Määttä is an alumnus of Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics and he has also worked as the Vice Chair of the University Board in 2014-2017. At present, he works as the CEO of Osuuskauppa Keskimaa and as the Chair of Central Finland Chamber of Commerce.
- The foundation significantly supports the University and strengthens its role in regional cooperation. As the Chairman, I find it important that various active bodies of Central Finland would be involved in the Foundation’s operation and also that the Foundation works in close interaction with the University. The University plays an important role for the success of whole Central Finland, Antti Määttä states.
The Vice Chair of the Board is Sanna-Mari Jyräkoski, CEO of the Regional Organisation of Enterprises in Central Finland, and the other members are Veli-Matti Jaatinen, Jaakko Kiiskilä, Rector Keijo Hämäläinen, and Finance and Service Director Päivi Seppä. Like previously, the 24-member Administrative Council of the Foundation is led by City Counsellor, an honorary doctor of the University of Jyväskylä, Markku Andersson.
The mission of the Foundation is to advocate the objectives of the University, support financially the University’s research and teaching, and provide grants and allowances. In addition, the Foundation promotes interaction and cooperation between the University and the trades and industries of Central Finland. Jyväskylä University Foundation also administers the Funds carrying the name of Rector emerita Aino Sallinen and Professor Kari Sajavaara, respectively.
The roots of the Foundation trace back to 1847, when District doctor Wolmar Schildt pronounced his first idea about the possibility of getting a university to Jyväskylä. Later in 1860, he also founded the Jyväskylä University Fund.
