Coronavirus instructions: contact teaching is reduced and all business trips abroad must be cancelled
On 12 March, the Finnish Government has specified its instructions related to the coronavirus pandemic. The University of Jyväskylä has decided to continue preventive actions related to the pandemic. The situation is changing rapidly and the instructions are kept updated as soon as possible. With the actions, we aim to prevent the expansion of coronavirus situation generally and in the university community, protect risk groups and secure the progress of studies. Instructions related to studying
- From Monday, 16 March, all contact teaching will be reduced. For courses that upon the consideration of the teacher can be moved to a remote study environment, the transfer will be made immediately. Digital Services will provide instructions and support to teachers for the technical implementation of remote teaching. The instructions will be ready by Wednesday, 18 March. The teacher of the course will contact students about the implementation method
- Studying that cannot be provided as remote teaching or through other arrangements must be postponed upon the consideration of the teacher
- The aim is to avoid physical contacts. In examinations, spaces will be enlarged and large groups will be divided to several rooms
- It is recommended to avoid the University’s common open study facilities and to study at home instead
- If you are ill, please stay at home!
- The implementation of entrance examinations will be planned in cooperation with other universities. The Finnish Government has prohibited public events of more than 500 people and entrance examination arrangements will be planned considering this
Instructions related to study exchange, intensive courses and study trips
- All intensive courses, exchanges abroad and study trips are cancelled until 30 June
- All exchange students are offered an opportunity to return to Finland and interrupt their exchange
- International Office will guide in questions related to grants
- The remote study recommendation of 14 days must be followed after returning from any trip abroad
Events
- JYU staff and students are not recommended to participate in any events with large audience
- Handshaking and any unnecessary physical contact should be avoided in events and meetings
Travelling
- All trips abroad related to work or studying must be cancelled until the end of May
- As for business trips, we also avoid travelling in Finland. Meetings should be held primarily through remote connections
- The decision to cancel a trip or return to home on the basis of these instructions is made by the employee’s immediate supervisor
- It is strongly recommended to cancel leisure time trips abroad. We recommend taking remote work equipment along
- All who return from a (business) trip from abroad must follow the remote work instruction of 14 days.
Visits
- We do not take visitors from abroad before 30 June. This applies to already hired employees, doctoral students, interns, students and partners
Sick leaves
- If you are ill or have symptoms, please stay at home
- In case of flu or influenza, an employee can be absent for 5 days by informing the supervisor and, after that, at the most 5 days through a remote consultation of an occupational health nurse
- If you cannot participate in teaching because of illness, please contact the course teacher
Remote work and internal meetings
- When leaving work, keep your computer, phone and other tools needed for remote work with you in case of possible remote work
- Remote work tasks are recommended with the approval of the supervisor. Exceptionally, they can be agreed by email without a remote work agreement, paying special attention to risk groups and the families of risk groups
- All meetings – also the University’s internal meetings – must be arranged primarily through remote connections, for example, in Teams
Academic Sports
- All Academic Sports activities, excluding courses related to studies, are interrupted at least until the end of March. The interruption includes group fitness classes, ballgames, courses and free sessions in all facilities
- As for gyms other than the Liikunta gym, customers can continue to use them normally at least so far they are open. The interruption of using the Liikunta gym does not apply to teaching at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences
Other instructions
- Remember to wash hands always when moving from one facility to another
- When queueing, keep a distance of at least one metre to other people

- If you suspect you may be affected or if you want ask about the coronavirus, please call +358 14 266 0133 on Monday-Thursday 8-16 and on Friday 9-16. At all other times, please contact the Central Finland Hospital District telephone helpline on 116 117. A health care professional will give you further instructions.
