Education at JYU rises the 66th in Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE)
In global comparison, the ranking of education at JYU was 66, which is the second best in Finland. Last year the position was 65. The highest ranking of Finnish universities was 38 for the University of Helsinki.
“It is a fantastic achievement to reach such high positions in a global ranking of education,” says Dean Anna-Maija Poikkeus from the Faculty of Education and Psychology.
“This reveals that our research is firmly among the best in the world, our education and experts have a strong reputation, and our work for making an impact has been successful. Thanks for this belongs to our whole community of researchers and teachers, which cooperates closely in the field of education and psychology.”
JYU’s social sciences and economics were ranked 301–400, both dropping slightly from the previous year. Computer science improved its position to 401–500.
Research, its volume and funding, the influence of scientific publications and the university’s reputation in the global science community make 60% of the evaluation criteria. In total 13 performance indicators measure research, teaching (30%), international outlook (7.5%) and knowledge transfer with industry (2.5%).
In the earlier THE ranking of universities, JYU’s ranking improved to 351–400. Among Finnish universities, JYU was in the sixth position. A detailed position is given only to the best 200 universities. The comparison included more than 1,500 top universities from all over the world.
