Five highlights from Researchers’ Night – Don’t miss these events!
Researchers’ Night returns to Jyväskylä on Friday, 25 September 2026. This year, alongside JYU, Jamk University of Applied Sciences will be taking part in the event. Visitors of all ages can look forward to a wide range of engaging activities that bring science to life.

Organised in collaboration with the City of Light festival, the evening combines the wonders of science with spectacular light installations. While exploring the city’s illuminated attractions, be sure to make time for these highlights:
- Discover the fascinating creatures of Lake Jyväsjärvi. Take a closer look at the animals that live beneath the lake’s surface. See small bottom-feeders and zooplankton up close in aquariums and under a microscope. Ambiotica Building, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Turn your own energy into movement and light. Your body functions like a small power plant, converting the energy in the food you eat into the power that keeps you moving. At Researchers’ Night, you can see this process in action by trying the light bike for yourself. Liikunta Building, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Explore gaming and XR technologies in Jamk’s GamePit. Try games created by students, experience virtual reality with VR headsets and discover the possibilities of wearable technology by testing a smart sleeve. You can also hear Dota 2 world champion Jesse Vainikka discuss his transition from professional e-sports to a new career. Jamk Rajakatu campus, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Smart sleeve demonstration: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jesse Vainikka’s talk: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Visit the Cyber Security Lab. See and test equipment used in cybersecurity research and teaching. Displays include a drone, a satellite, a robotic hand, and voice-cloning technology. Agora Building, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Step into the role of a television newsreader. Have you ever wondered what it is like to present the news on television? How are news stories written, and who decides what becomes a news story? Explore these questions and try producing and presenting your own news broadcast in front of a real TV camera using a digital studio environment. A Building, Seminaarinmäki, at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
