The City of Light event is being held at the same time with the Researchers’ Night, so you can see the art of light and the wonders of science at the same time! There is something for everyone in the programme, but the following tips are a good place to start:

  1. The amazing world of freshwater pearl mussels is on display in the Ambiotica building, where visitors can see tiny mussel larvae. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  2. Across of the lake in Mattilanniemi, watch a drone fly and get to know car safety systems in the Drive-In laboratory. Get in the driver’s seat and test how using a mobile phone affects your driving performance. From 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  3. In Agora, you can learn more about the mind-body connection as visitors try to spot a liar using body cues. Would you be able to tell who was lying? From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  4. What happens in the human body when a muscle is contracted? How do genes affect people? What do the structures of life look like when under the microscope? Come and find out at the Liikunta building. You can also test your balance and physical skills! From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  5. The power and meaning of music is explored in the Musica building, where music is used to evoke emotions, get your feet tapping and learn about different instruments. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will culminate in a multicultural musical performance from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

All this and much more, including past favourites such as the colourful chemistry experiments and the particle accelerator tour, will be available at the Researchers’ Night on 27 September 2024. On Friday evening, the green Linkki buses of Jyväskylän Liikenne will provide free transport from 6 p.m. to midnight, making it is easy to get to the campus.

Welcome to the European Researchers’ Night – a festival of science and scientists! Admission to the events is free.
