Four researchers from the University of Jyväskylä received grants from the Väisälä Fund

The Vilho, Yrjö, and Kalle Väisälä Fund of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters awarded a total of 1.8 million euros to researchers in the field of mathematics and natural sciences. Four researchers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science at the University of Jyväskylä were awarded grants.

Vilho, Yrjö and Kalle Väisälä Fund distributes grants to representatives of fields of research included in the mathematical and natural sciences. The fund, which originated from a donation made by Professor Vilho Väisälä in 1963, awards grants for doctoral studies and short-term research visits abroad in the fields of mathematics and natural sciences. The fund supports research in the fields of physics, mathematics, geophysics, meteorology and astronomy.

The following researchers from the University of Jyväskylä awarded grants from the Vilho, Yrjö, and Kalle Väisälä Fund:

Physics

  • Master of Science Carlisle Aurabelle M. Casuga: Global Analysis of Non-linear QCD Dynamics in Deep Inelastic Scattering, 28 000€
  • Docent Mikael Reponen, Laser spectroscopy of 94Ag, 3 500€
  • Master of Science Pyry Runko, JIMWLK evolution of the odderon, 28 000€

Mathematitcs

  • Master of Science Miro Arvila, New methods for Independent Vector Analysis and their statistical properties, 28 000€

The renowned Väisälä Prize

  • The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters awarded the Väisälä Prize to Associate professor Sylvester Eriksson-Bique.
