Funding from the RCF programme on sport science to the University of Jyväskylä

The Research Council of Finland has granted researchers at the University of Jyväskylä funding from the RCF programme on sport science (ACTIVE). The funding was awarded to Professor Riikka Kivelä and Senior Researcher Anna-Katriina Salmikangas from the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences.

Riikka Kivelä’s project, which investigates the mechanisms of physical activity in obesity and cardiometabolic diseases, was granted 450 000 euros for 1.9.2026–31.8.2029.

Anna-Katriina Salmikangas is partner in a research project that examines good governance in sport. The project will produce practical recommendations to promote more transparent and responsible sports governance. The project, carried out in collaboration with the Universities of Turku and Tampere, received a total of 655,000 euros in funding.

The Research Council of Finland (RCF) has granted a total of 2.45 million euros in funding for four separate projects and one consortium project within the Academy Programme for Sport Science and Physical Activity (ACTIVE). The aim of the ACTIVE programme is to advance the quality, innovativeness and impact of research on sport and physical activity. In this round, the RCF received 49 applications for a total sum of nearly 24.4 million euros.
