Postdoctoral researcher Vincent Roy-Di Piazza has recently been elected to a full fellowship of the Royal Historical Society in London.

Founded in 1868 and based in London, the Royal Historical Society (RHS) is one of the world’s largest historical societies, with more than 6,500 members working internationally, ranging from postgraduate students to senior professors. The Society’s mission is to support, defend, and promote the interests of the historical profession, both within higher education and across the wider heritage sector.

Full fellows of the RHS are elected through a review by the Society’s committee, following recommendation by another fellow and a significant contribution to historical scholarship. Fellows are entitled to add the postnominals FRHistS to their name. In the latest round, the Society elected 254 new members worldwide, including 58 full fellows from ten different countries. The only new fellow based in Finland, Vincent has been working at HELA since 2024, within the ERC Consolidator project “De-centring Eighteenth-century Political Economy” (DEPE) led by Associate Professor Ere Nokkala. His election to the Society highlights the project’s growing contributions to the study of early modern history at our department.

Following the good news, Vincent said: “I am honoured and excited for the chance to contribute to the Society’s mission, which carries vital work in defending and supporting the interests of the historical profession. On a more personal note, I am also delighted to be representing Finland and the University of Jyväskylä among the new fellows. My warm congratulations to all the newly elected members!”
