JYU declines in the Shanghai Ranking
In addition to the list of top 500 universities in the world, the ranking also names universities in positions from 501 to 1,000.
The Shanghai Ranking mostly focuses on research. The comparison is based on, for example, Nobel prize-winning alumni, highly cited researchers and articles published in renowned scientific journals. Eight Finnish universities were included in the list, three of them among the best 500. JYU has reached the group of top 500 in 2003–2013 and 2015.
In subject-specific comparison, JYU succeeded well: Education was ranked as high as 36. Communication and Mathematics was placed 101–150, Psychology, Chemistry and Hospitality and Tourism Management (at JYU Sport & Tourism) 201–300, Ecology and Business Administration 301–400. Physics, Economics, Political Sciences, Management, Computer Science Engineering, Clinical Medicine (at JYU Sport and Health Sciences) and Public Health ranked 401–500.
According to the ranking, the most appreciated university is again Harvard. It is followed by Stanford and Cambridge. The top 20 included 15 universities from the USA.
