JYU improved its position among the world’s best universities
JYU’s position in the latest ranking was 347, while it was 358 last year. The list includes only 1,400 top universities of the world. Therefore, any position on the list is an achievement. The list includes nine universities from Finland. As in last year, JYU was the fourth among Finnish universities.
The top positions of the ranking were given to MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the the University of Cambridge.
“The ranking puts a lot of weight on the university’s international reputation,” says Vice Rector Henrik Kunttu. “We can be very happy for our improved position. It proves that our research and education is distinguished also internationally.”
The ranking is based on six indicators with different weight: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty/student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international student ratio (5%) and international staff ratio (5%).
The University of Jyväskylä’s international staff ratio has improved significantly in this year’s ranking. The indicator ranked best at JYU was the faculty/student ratio.
