JYU keeps its position in the Shanghai Ranking – Education among the best in the world

The University of Jyväskylä was again included in the Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities, ARWU) and this year the ranking was 701–800. The position was the same as in the previous year. Of Finnish universities, JYU was ranked the seventh.

In addition to the list of top 500 universities in the world, the ranking also provides a list of universities in positions from 501 to 1,000.

The Shanghai Ranking mostly focuses on research. The comparison is based on, for example, Nobel prize-winning alumni, highly cited researchers and articles published in renowned scientific journals. Seven Finnish universities were included in the list.

In subject-specific comparison, JYU succeeded well: Education was ranked as high as 44. Also 12 other disciplines from JYU were included in global top 500.

Library and Information Science (at JYU Information Systems Science and Social Sciences) was placed 51–75. Communications was placed 101–150, Mathematics 151–200, Psychology, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology, and Hospitality and Tourism Management (at JYU sports sciences) 201–300. Physics, Management, Computer Science & Engineering, Clinical Medicine (at JYU Gerontology), and Public Health ranked 401–500.

According to the ranking, the most valued university is again Harvard and it is followed by Stanford and Cambridge. The global top 20 included 15 universities from the USA.
