Contact teaching has been increased gradually at JYU from 1 February. From 21 February, the University will abandon facility-specific occupancy restrictions in teaching, internal events, and events organised by external parties.

Because of the high rate of COVID-19 cases, the staff and students still have the obligation to use face masks when there is more than one person in the room. Read JYU’s instructions for the use of face masks (pdf). In addition, health security must be ensured and sufficiently large facilities must be used in teaching and events.

Teaching

Facility-specific occupancy restrictions are removed. In teaching, there still is an obligation to use face masks. It is important to take care of health security, especially by using sufficiently spacious facilities for large teaching groups. The aim is that teaching in period 4 can be implemented largely as contact teaching by utilising good pedagogical practices and digital opportunities.

Public examinations of doctoral dissertations and events

In public examinations of doctoral dissertations, it is not obligatory to arrange the remote participation possibility from 28 February. The organiser of the event is obliged to take care of that the event is implemented by ensuring health security. No health security plan needs to be filled for a public examination of a doctoral dissertation.

The case-specific review of external events is abandoned. Facilities are rented normally and they can be used by observing general restrictions from the Regional State Administrative Agency.

Hobby activities

Hobby and free time activities such as gyms, hobby groups and subject association groups were opened on 14 February. The instructors of hobby groups and the persons making facility bookings are responsible for that general safety instructions are observed during the activities.

The situation and policies will be assessed next time on 17 March 2022.
