Teaching

The earlier policy about remote teaching will continue until 27 February. Teaching is implemented primarily remotely until 27 February 2022 and only necessary contact teaching is arranged. Contact teaching may be necessary to achieve learning outcomes. Upon the consideration of teaching staff, contact teaching that is central for creating a sense of a group can also be considered necessary.

Sufficient distances between people and good hygiene must be taken care of in contact teaching. All participants are obliged to use face masks. Contact teaching should be planned to take place in facilities that are as spacious as possible. It is still important to take care of students’ wellbeing both in remote and contact teaching.

JYU aims to be able to increase contact teaching from the beginning of March.

Use of facilities

The maximum occupancy of each facility is 50% from the occupancy of normal situation. In contact teaching, the aim is to have group sizes of at the most 20 persons. For exams, facility-specific limitation is 50 persons. Facilities with plenty of space are favoured for exams.

The aim is to keep self-study facilities and the library still open. For updated information on library operations, see the Open Science Centre website. The EXAM rooms for electronic exams are open.

Facilities can be rented to external parties upon consideration. Related inquiries: tilavaraus@jyu.fi. Decisions on renting are made case-specifically by acknowledging a possible risk assessment and restrictions for events.

Gyms are available only for teaching purposes and guided Academic Sports sessions. For Academic Sports, updated situation is visible on uMove - Academic Sports website. Entertainment or evening events of subject associations and activities of choirs or hobby groups will not be organised in JYU facilities until further notice. Facilities of subject associations can be used for necessary meetings and activities by acknowledging restrictions. Subject associations are allowed to rent JYU facilities for regular meetings by acknowledging facility restrictions.

Public examinations of doctoral dissertations and other public events

The Regional State Administrative Agency has prohibited all indoor public events and public meetings with over 20 participants in the municipalities of the health care district. To enable public defencing of doctoral dissertations, remote participation must be arranged for all public examination events. In order to prevent possible continuing of the restrictions, the possibility for remote participation should be planned at least to all public examinations of doctoral dissertations in January–February.
