Jyväskylä Universities: preliminary study of the student information system begins
The preliminary study will examine the cost effects of the system alternatives, their usability, and the timing of the change due to external factors. The preliminary study will examine four alternatives:
- Both higher education institutions will have their own study administration systems (Peppi at Jamk and Sisu at JYU)
- Jamk’s Peppi will be transferred to the SaaS service and JYU’s Sisu will remain unchanged
- Both institutions will move to Sisu, but the systems will remain separate
- Both institutions will move to a joint Sisu system
The study is set to launch in May 2026, and both organisations will nominate participants and project leaders for the study. Preparation will be carried out carefully and thoroughly, taking different angles into account. The aim is to make a decision on the study information systems in autumn 2026. No decisions will be made until a shared vision has been established and all options have been carefully evaluated.
“Jaakko Ijäs and Ulla Tiainen-Sallinen from Jamk will participate in the study,” says Sirpa Tuomi, Education Services Manager at Jamk. “All four options will be examined and included in the comparison. The preliminary study will provide valuable background information to inform the decision-making process. We are looking for a high-quality, usable and accessible solution that meets the requirements of the future.”
“The preliminary study is based on the group’s educational objectives, such as synergy between degree programme portfolios and ensuring students can transition smoothly between higher education institutions,” says Riikka Hurri, Head of Development, who is responsible for the preliminary study at JYU together with Markku Närhi. “The study is guided by the future needs and requirements of our educational activities.”
