Kaisa Miettinen and Pasi Raiskinmäki appointed as new vice rectors of the University of Jyväskylä

Rector Jari Ojala has appointed Kaisa Miettinen and Pasi Raiskinmäki as vice rectors of the University of Jyväskylä on 2 May 2024. Their four-year term of office will start on 15 August 2024. Marja-Leena Laakso will continue as the vice rector for education.

Since 2007, Kaisa Miettinen, PhD, has worked as a professor of industrial optimisation in the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä. Her research interests include multiobjective optimisation, multiple-criteria decision analysis, and decision-making support. With her research group, she has developed methods and tools to support decision-making in situations in which there are several conflicting objectives and the decision-maker must find the best balance.

Miettinen served as the vice rector for research, infrastructures and the Graduate School for Doctoral Studies at JYU from 2012 to 2017. She has worked as the chair of the University Collegium since 2021. Previously Miettinen has worked for the Helsinki School of Economics, the IIASA research institute in Austria and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

Pasi Raiskinmäki, PhD, has served as the Development Director of Research Services at the University of Jyväskylä from 2021. Before that, he worked for the JAMK University of Applied Sciences as a director of the School of Technology, being responsible for engineering and agrologist training as well as related research and development. 

Raiskinmäki completed his doctorate in the Department of Physics at JYU and has also worked as a researcher for the department and the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. He has worked in various research, development and innovation projects as a researcher and a project manager and in RDI development positions.

Kaisa Miettinen will lead research, doctoral training and innovation activities at JYU. Pasi Raiskinmäki will lead societal interaction, especially in relation to partnerships and research cooperation as well as continuous learning activities connected to them. A more detailed division of work tasks between the vice rectors will be specified after they have started in their positions.

“Kaisa Miettinen has profound and extensive experience in leading research activities at a science university and developing doctoral training as well as knowledge of Finnish universities,” says Rector Jari Ojala. “Pasi Raiskinmäki has versatile and robust expertise in research activities and corporate cooperation in the university sector as well as in universities of applied sciences. Kaisa and Pasi are valuable additions to the leadership of the university and will contribute to its further development.”
