Marja-Leena Laakso and Henrik Kunttu continue as vice rectors of the University of Jyväskylä

On 31 August 2021, Rector Keijo Hämäläinen appointed Professor Maija-Leena Laakso as the vice rector responsible for education and Professor Heikki Kunttu as the vice rector responsible for research and innovations for the term of office of maximum five year starting on 1 August 2022.

In compliance with the University of Jyväskylä Regulations, the Rector decides on the number of vice rectors and their division of work.

Professor Marja-Leena Laakso, vice rector responsible for education, worked earlier as the dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology. She is a professor of child and developmental psychology.

Professor of physical chemistry Henrik Kunttu, vice rector responsible for research and innovations, was earlier the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. Kunttu is a renowned expert of low temperature chemistry and physics and nanophotonics.

“The current vice rectors have done excellent job to promote research and innovation activities as well as the quality and renewal of education at JYU,” says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen. “In the future, society will have even greater expectations towards the university. To best achieve these ambitious targets, we will continue with the same rector team that is committed to common goals.”
