New University Board members since 1 January 2022 from outside the university community: Tapio Huttula, Antti Koivula, and Hanna Maula

In its meeting on 26 March 2021, the University Collegium appointed PhD Tapio Huttula, DSc (Tech) Antti Koivula, and DSc (Econ), Lic.Phil. Hanna Maula as University Board members from outside the university community for the term 1 January 2022–31 December 2023.

Tapio Huttula (PhD, Finnish History, University of Jyväskylä, 2000) is working at Sitra as a Senior Advisor specialised in lifelong learning. He has worked earlier e.g. as the Rector of HUMAK University of Applied Sciences, Vice Chair of the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (Arene), and the Chair and a member of the Finnish Education Evaluation Council. Huttula also has wide experience from the field of professional organisations.





Antti Koivula (DSc Tech, Occupational Psychology, Helsinki University of Technology, 1998) has worked as the Director General of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health since 2015. His main interests include especially the transition and digitalisation of work, enhancement of welfare society, and development of management and competence in Finnish working life. He has worked e.g. as a developer of small start-up companies, at Nokia in tasks pertaining to strategic change and professional development, and as a researcher at Helsinki University of Technology. Koivula is a member of the Advisory Board of State Treasury, the Board of Hansel Oy, and the Board of the Association for Finnish Work.





Hanna Maula (DSc (Econ), Management, Aalto University, 2018, Lic.Phil. Organizational Communication & Public Relations, University of Jyväskylä, 2004) works at UPM-Kymmene Corporation as the Vice President, Communications & Brand. She has wide experience in communications and marketing as well as research, both in Finland and internationally. She has also worked as Communications Director at Aalto University and at Neste Corporation. Since 2019, Maula has been a Board member of The Strategic Management Society of Finland, and she is also a Member of the Advisory Board of Helsinki Design Week.

In this combination, the members have complementary backgrounds and strong commitment and interest toward the University of Jyväskylä and its development. Keeping up with the competitive setting calls for transformative capacity, and I believe that the new Board members will support us by strategic decisions in this context”, says the Chair of the University Collegium, Kaisa Miettinen.

The University Board consists of seven persons. In addition to the members coming from outside the University, new Board members will be chosen in university elections in autumn 2021: from staff members, two persons from the professor category, and one member from the research and teaching staff and other staff. The student representative for the Board is appointed by the local Student Union. In autumn 2021, the University Collegium will confirm the elected staff members as well as the student member of the University Board.
