No changes in JYU’s coronavirus policies: remote work recommendation is removed and contact teaching increased
“Based on the university’s own estimation and consultation with health authorities, there is no need to change or tighten restrictions at JYU even though the region’s incidence rate is growing. The earlier restrictions are still valid,” says Jarkko Pirkkalainen, the chair of the coronavirus monitoring team.
There have been some exposures in the university community and it has been possible to trace their infection chains. According to health authorities, tighter restrictions would hardly have helped to eliminate these exposures.
The university will implement changes valid from the beginning of period 2 in a planned manner. From 25 October, it is possible to organise internal and external events of 150 persons in the university’s premises. For exams, 150 participants has been possible from 1 October. Starting from period 2, occupancy rates can be raised to 75%.
“It is still important to increase the vaccination rate,” Pirkkalainen says. “The use of face masks and other familiar safety practices remain valid. It is of primary importance not to come to the campus if you are ill or have symptoms. This is the best way to avoid the spreading of COVID-19 in the university community and secure that operations on the campus can continue.”
It is important to raise the vaccination rate because full vaccination protection prevents the COVID-19 illness effectively. It is possible to get the first or the second vaccination in Ruusupuisto on 25 and 26 October at 8:30–14:30. The vaccination point is open for all who are 12 years or older regardless of the place of residence. No appointments are required. Please note there is a break in vaccinations from 11:00–11:45.
The next meeting of the extended coronavirus management team will be on 2 November.
