Participants for university research are recruited through public calls
An article published in Keskisuomalainen on 12 April reported on a Jyväskylä-based gym entrepreneur accused of defrauding older people. In connection with the case, reference was also made to research conducted at the University of Jyväskylä. For this reason, we explain in this news item how participants are recruited for university research.
Calls for participation are published on the university website
Calls for upcoming studies are published on the university’s website. Various communication channels are used to disseminate the calls, such as social media channels of the faculties. In population-based studies, contact details may be requested from the population register, in which case the invitation may be sent personally. In addition, you may be contacted personally with a research invitation if you have given your consent, for example in connection with a previous study or a biobank sample.
Studies are conducted on university premises
University research is mainly conducted on university premises. For example, most studies at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences are carried out at the University of Jyväskylä Sport and Health Laboratory, located on Rautpohjankatu.
Participation is voluntary and free of charge
We seek volunteer participants who are interested in supporting research and often also benefit personally from participation.
For example, in studies conducted by the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, participants may receive feedback on their physical fitness, health risk factors, or nutrition.
All measurements carried out in the studies are free of charge for participants.
Participants’ data protection is ensured
An information sheet and a data protection notice are prepared for each study, which participants can review before giving their consent and taking part in the research. Research integrity and responsibility are a central part of a researcher’s work.
Each study is led by a principal investigator
Responsibility for conducting the study lies with the principal investigator from the University of Jyväskylä. The call for participation includes their or the research team’s contact details, from which participants can obtain further information if needed.
