QS Ranking 2026: Sport and health sciences ranked 45th, nine JYU subjects included in the prestigious ranking

The results of QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 have been released. Among the University of Jyväskylä’s disciplines, sport and health sciences remained in the world’s top 100, ranking 45th. Last year the ranking was 47th. Other subjects that ranked highly were education 101–150 and linguistics 151–200, which were both in the same position as last year.

Other ranked JYU fields in 2026 were psychology and communication and media studies 251–300 and English language and literature 301–350. Physics was ranked 501–550 and computer science and information systems 751–800. Medicine was ranked 701–850. In the category of medicine, the University of Jyväskylä’s publications are mostly from the field of sport and health sciences but also from other disciplines.

Among JYU’s broader fields of science, humanities and arts were rated the strongest, ranking in the same range 401–450 as in the previous comparison. The ranking improved in comparison to the previous year.

QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates universities in 55 distinct disciplines. The ranking is based on the following indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per paper, the productivity and impact of the published work of scientists or scholars, and international research cooperation. The weighing of indicators varies between disciplines. The disciplines are based on the Scopus discipline classifications, which are determined by the title of the journal. This year the ranking included 55 disciplines and 1,912 universities from all over the world.
