Record number of degrees in the exceptional year 2020
In 2019, JYU had 1,575 master’s, 1,235 bachelor’s and 127 doctoral degrees. This means that the number of all degrees increased significantly regardless of the coronavirus pandemic.
- “We are very pleased about the great number of degrees,” says Director of Student and Academic Services Mari Ikonen. “Our staff has been very flexible and able to provide students high-quality teaching and guidance also in exceptional conditions. The high number may also have been affected by the ending of study rights based on major subjects and the transfer to degree programmes at the turn of the year.”
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (61), the Faculty of Mathematics and Science (36) and the Faculty of Education and Psychology (36) achieved the highest numbers of doctoral degrees. They were followed by the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences (17), the Faculty of Information Technology (13) and the School of Business and Economic (10). The number of licentiate degrees in the whole university was five.
