Remote work recommendation removes, contact teaching increased
In its meeting of 21 September, the extended coronavirus management team discussed about policies for period 2. From 25 October, it is possible to organise internal and external events of 150 persons in the university’s premises. For exams, the limit of 150 participants is possible from 1 October. Starting from period 2, occupancy rates can be raised from 50% to 75%. The current remote work recommendation is removed immediately.
“We find it important to foster the sense of community, as it is safe for the staff to return to work also on the campus.” says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen. “It is possible to continue flexible remote work until the end of October. The principles for contact and remote work will become valid from 1 November. As the number of people on the campus will increase, it will be even more important to use the masks so that in case of possible exposures it is possible to avoid large quarantines.”
“Almost all diagnosed infections and exposures have taken place elsewhere than in JYU activities. Working and studying on the campus is safe as long as we remember to take care of basic things, for example, use face masks. Even though remote working is possible, I encourage everyone to use the campus facilities for teaching, research and support services.”
JYU prepares to abandon all COVID-19 restrictions by the end of the year
JYU prepares to abandon all COVID-19 restrictions starting from period 3, on 1 January 2022, and preparations for period 3 can be made on this basis. JYU is preparing to take at the most 300 exchange students and international interns for the spring term.
Full vaccine protection is important
On 20 September 2021, the regional infectious disease control group reported that the coronavirus situation has become worse, especially in Jyväskylä, where infections are spreading in nightlife among young adults who are unvaccinated or with an incomplete vaccine protection. The group underlines that it is important take the second vaccination in order to develop full vaccine protection. Full vaccine protection prevents the COVID-19 illness very effectively. For fully vaccinated persons, the risk of COVID-19 illness is significantly smaller than for unvaccinated ones.
The Rector commends the Student Union for its responsible mode of actions at the beginning of the term. The events of subject associations have also been well prepared and arranged safely. This has supported the integration of new students with the university community without compromising safety.
Extended coronavirus management group will still meet regularly. The following meetings are on 15 October, 2 November and 22 November.
