The Science Council is implementing the Research development program and one action within the program is to support the new professors in their duties. The starting grant for new professors is a tool for the professor to establish her or his research group and start the research at JYU. Rector has decided to begin a renewed Starting grant program.

The current program has supported 71 professors or associate professors since 2014, typically with either 20 000 € or 60 000 €. The grant holders have used their grant to network internationally with their research partners and for their research groups.

The new starting grant program provides support to the professors, associate professors and assistant professors. The support is 30 000 € per year for two years time. There is a possibility for a more substantial grant with special grounds and commitment of the Faculty. If the applicant already holds external research projects he or she may also use the starting grant later.

The recruiting unit may apply for the starting grant with the new professor once the work agreement has been signed. In order to ensure that the grant is readily available for the applicant it is suggested that the application is done latest three months after the professor starts the new appointment.
