Take part in scientific research! BRAIN-BALANCE - Influence of the brain on balance control

We are looking for healthy volunteers for research at the University of Jyväskylä. We are studying how brain activity influences balance control ability by measuring and stimulating the central nervous system.

The research includes six research visits over three years. The participants will visit the Balance and Central Nervous System Measurement laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä’s Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the head and brain, and take four measurement visits. Brain magnetic stimulations, electrical stimulations of the muscle, and balance ability measurements will be done during measurement visits.

In addition, the research includes a four-month period of strength and balance training. During this period, the participant performs strength and balance exercises four times a week in the gym under the guidance of a fitness trainer.

You will get four body composition measurements, a structural image of your brain (MRI), a free health-related lecture, and persons randomly assigned to the training group will have a 4-month guided training program.

The research is led by academy researcher Simon Walker.
