The University of Jyväskylä extends the spreading phase restrictions to week 6
In compliance with the earlier policy, only separately defined critical activities can be implemented on the campus. The decision on the criticality of an activity is made by the head of the unit (the dean, the director of the independent institute or the Finance and Service Director). The limitation also applies to research activities.
Moving on the campus is still limited and entrance doors are locked. Entry to buildings takes place through separately defined doors using a personal access card.
No internships or teaching practice will take place in the Jyväskylä region in week 6, excluding those arranged remotely. Students will not participate in activities on the campus (including research, guidance discussions, data acquisition). Cafeterias will sell take away food to students also in week 6. The University Library services will be limited. Printing service for the students of JYU is available.
The development of the epidemic situation and the City of Jyväskylä’s decision-making concerning secondary schools will be followed before making decisions for the Secondary School of Jyväskylä Teacher Training School. The Teacher Training School will follow the City of Jyväskylä’s policy for basic teaching. Currently only necessary actions that prepare students for matriculation examinations will be implemented in upper secondary school education.
“Since summer 2020, most teaching has been implemented as distance learning,” says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen. “Contact teaching has been implemented with strict safety arrangements only in necessary subjects such as art and practical subjects. We will make all needed actions to prevent creating close contacts in order to mitigate the situation in the region. From the beginning of the epidemic, our aim has been to prevent the spreading of infections in the university community and society and, on the other hand, to secure students’ progress of studies. We hope that with these temporary actions the situation would tranquillise and, on 15 February, we would be able to return to the previous operating model and arrange activities necessary for progressing studies on the campuses.”
Contact teaching at JYU is suspended until 28 February 2021.
