Teachers are encouraged to hold contact teaching always when the group size and the learning facility enable a safe teaching arrangement.

Sufficient distances between people and good hygiene must be taken care of in contact teaching. All participants are obliged to use face masks. Read more about the mask obligation from JUY's mask instructions (pdf). Contact teaching should be planned to take place in facilities that are as spacious as possible. The facility-specific maximum occupancy of 50% will be removed from 1 February. The maximum number of people in a teaching or exam facility is 50 persons.

For large groups, teaching will still be arranged as remote or online teaching.

The teacher can, upon consideration, also arrange the teaching situation so that part of students participate on-site and part remotely, if the pedagogical implementation and the teaching facility and technology so allow. However, the teacher is not obliged to arrange the possibility of remote participation to contact teaching.

Students are encouraged to utilise facilities that can be used for self-study or small group study in different parts of the campus.

Teaching units will give more detailed guidelines about their facilities when necessary.

Events and public examinations of doctoral dissertations

In the use of lecture halls and public facilities in February, the university prioritises teaching and the possibility for students to meet. Event activities have still significant authority restrictions. Large contact events will not be arranged until 27 February. Event activities will not be increased until the beginning of March.

The organisation of public examinations of doctoral dissertations must be ensured. The examinations are public events and, because of possibly continuing authority restrictions, all public examination events must have a remote connection for audience, with the possibility for the audience to comment. The possibility for remote participation can be abandoned when there are no more authority restrictions for low-risk public events such as the public examination of a doctoral dissertation. The Regional State Administrative Agency (AVI) has prohibited public events of more than 20 persons until 20 February.

Facilities can be rented to external parties upon consideration. The facility reservation service will forward external reservation requests to be decided by the chair of the coronavirus management team.

Academic Sports will open gradually

Between 23 January and 20 February, the Regional State Administrative Agency (AVI) enables public events and hobby activities as long as the organising party pays attention to preventing the spreading of infections in its activities. This can be done by limiting the number of participants and by seating and facility arrangements.

  • On 17 January–6 February the programme is limited, including stream classes, outdoor classes, low-risk ballgames (table tennis and badminton) and the possibility to use the Monitoimitalo and Rentukka gyms and the swimming pool.
  • Group fitness classes and ballgames will be opened on Monday, 7 February according to the calendar.
  • In group fitness classes, the number of participants is limited to 20 persons on 7–20 February. Participants must register for the classes in advance in the reservation system.
  • In ballgames, the number of participants is limited on 7–20 February, and participants must register in advance.

The situation and coronavirus policies will be reviewed at the latest in week 11. Before that, the coronavirus management team will meet on 16 February.
