Turning off lights as a symbol of support for the climate: campus lights will be switched off on Saturday 28 for Earth Hour
WWF’s Earth Hour is the world’s largest climate event, held on Saturday 28 March 2026, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The University of Jyväskylä will participate in the event by turning off the campus area’s outdoor lighting and the indoor lights of its buildings for the duration. Staff and students are also encouraged to take part, even though it takes place at the weekend.
Turning off lights is a symbolic gesture that shows our concern for the climate and the environment, while urging decision-makers to take action. WWF has compiled tips on its website on how individual choices can help slow climate change. You could make a small change to your eating, travel, housing, or recycling habits to reduce your carbon footprint. Would you cook an environmentally friendly dinner for your family and friends or lower the temperature at home by one degree? See WWF’s tips!
