The new Master’s Degree Programme in Diagnostic Health Sciences (clinical radiography and clinical laboratory science) will start at JYU in autumn 2026. The degree will be implemented as a collaboration of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. The MDP will provide the degree of Master of Health Sciences. The studies can be tailored according to the students’ basic education, professional skills and future competence requirements. The programme will provide a postgraduate training opportunity especially for experts in bioanalysis and radiography.

“The programme will focus on biological sample analysis, clinical radiography, AI solutions, quality management and safety,” explains Associate Professor Eija Laakkonen, the programme coordinator of the MDP at the University of Jyväskylä. “The programme prepares future students to work in diagnostics planning as well as in research, development, expert and teaching duties.”

“Cooperation with the University of Jyväskylä is very important for us to develop the postgraduate training of experts in bioanalysis,” says President Jenni Kalliomäki from the Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists in Finland.

The Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists in Finland is the national representative body of biomedical laboratory scientists. It anticipates and promotes professional and educational development and appreciation in the field.

“Radiographers are experts in clinical radiography and medical use of radiation,” says CEO Päivi Wood from the Society of Radiographers in Finland. “Cooperation with JYU strengthens the competence of radiographers in the country.”

The Society of Radiographers in Finland is the association for professionals in medical use of radiation. It aims to make the work of radiographers, imaging professionals, and users of medical radiation more visible.

“Warm thanks for the donations to both associations,” says Associate Professor Eija Laakkonen from the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä. “Their support is of primary importance for the Master’s Degree Programme in Diagnostic Health Sciences.”
