University of Jyväskylä ranked among the world’s top 500 universities

The University of Jyväskylä remained its position in the Best Global Universities ranking. This year JYU was ranked 489,while last year’s position was 433. In field-specific comparisons, Arts & Humanities at JYU were ranked 174.

The global ranking by U.S. News & World Report is based on indicators such as research reputation and the number of publications and citations. The new edition includes country, regional and subject-specific rankings. This year the comparison included 1,500 universities from 81 countries.

Jyväskylä was the seventh highest of nine Finnish universities on the list. In field-specific comparisons, JYU was 174th in Arts & Humanities, which is the second best in Finland. In other fields, JYU was ranked in Mathematics (204), Social Sciences and Public Health (239), Psychology (250), Chemistry (310), Physics (374), Environment/Ecology (368), Biology (423) and Clinical Medicine (597).

From Finnish universities, the University of Helsinki and Aalto University were ranked highest. The list also included the University of Turku, the University of Eastern Finland, the University of Tampere, the University of Oulu, Lappeenranta University of Technology and Åbo Akademi University.

The top three universities on the global list are Harvard, MIT and Stanford in the US. The top three European universities are Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London.

U.S. News & World Report, which now published its sixth international comparison, has published rankings of US universities for over 30 years.
