University of Jyväskylä to award 15 honorary doctorates

The University of Jyväskylä will award 15 new honorary doctorates in May 2023. The eleventh Conferment of Degrees Ceremony for the whole University will be held on 19–21 May 2023.

The faculties of the University award honorary doctorates to persons with meritorious work for the benefit of society or science. A great number of masters and doctors are also expected to participate in the conferment ceremony.

– Our new honorary doctors magnificently represent both international top-level research and significant figures important for our university and society, says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen.

The Act of Conferment and the conferment procession will be held on Saturday, 20 May. The procession proceeds from the Main Building of the University of Jyväskylä to the Jyväskylä City Church. Audience may watch the procession along the route.

The University will award honorary doctorates to the following distinguished persons:

  • Doctor of Theology Jussi Nuorteva
  • Professor emerita Marta Szebehely

  • Professor Michael D. Myers

Jyväskylä School of Business and Economics

  • Professor emerita Jean Helms Mills
  • CEO, kauppaneuvos (Finnish honorary title) Antti Määttä

  • Professor Kathy Sylva

Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences
