I study physical activity, physical function and health. I work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences and the Gerontology Research Center at the University of Jyväskylä, where I also lead my own research projects. I received my PhD in sport sciences in late 2023 through a joint doctorate (cotutelle) between the University of Jyväskylä and KU Leuven.
My greatest passion is developing sensor-based indicators of physical function that can be detected in daily life using wearable technology. I am particularly interested in how older adults move in their everyday lives, including sit-to-stand transitions, stair climbing and high-intensity activity. My goal is to establish a research group that advances this field. I also study sports biomechanics, especially water sports such as canoeing and kayaking.
I actively develop new methodological solutions. My methodological expertise spans a wide range of sensor technologies, signal processing and programming. My subject-matter expertise focuses on biomechanics, physical function, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and coaching science.
In addition to my PhD, I hold an MSc in Sport Sciences and an MSc in Health Sciences, and I have qualified as a physiotherapist (BSc) and an engineer (BEng). I have also completed the Finnish Vocational Qualification in Coaching. I am well connected nationally and internationally and an active member of the scientific community. My roles include serving on the board of the Jyväskylä Association of Researchers and Teachers, as a deputy member of the University Collegium and as a member of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences. I have published several peer-reviewed articles and presented my research at numerous national and international conferences. My recognitions include the HEPA Europe 2023 Early Career Research Award and selection as the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences Student of the Year in 2018.
