Biography

I study how the fundamental structure of matter emerges from the strong interaction between quarks and gluons, with a particular focus on gluon saturation and the quark–gluon plasma (QGP) created in high-energy nuclear collisions. My research combines theoretical physics, computer simulations and statistical methods to connect measurements from particle and nuclear physics with the properties of matter at the smallest scales.

I use data from deep inelastic scattering, ultra-peripheral collisions and heavy-ion collisions to study the structure of protons and nuclei, the dynamics of gluons at high energies, and the properties of the quark–gluon plasma. A particular focus is on developing Bayesian methods that allow different types of experimental data to be analysed together while consistently accounting for uncertainties.

My research also involves developing computational tools and machine-learning methods for large-scale physics simulations. These methods help make complex calculations more efficient and enable more comprehensive comparisons between theoretical models and experimental data. The work is relevant to current experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and to future facilities such as the Electron–Ion Collider (EIC).

My areas of expertise include quantum chromodynamics (QCD), gluon saturation, the structure of protons and nuclei, heavy-ion collisions, quark–gluon plasma, Bayesian inference, uncertainty quantification and scientific computing. I am happy to discuss these topics with students, researchers, journalists and other organisations interested in particle and nuclear physics.
