Biography

I study banking, bank risk-taking, and financial stability. My research examines how central bank policies and banking regulation influence the resilience, lending decisions, and performance of financial institutions. I am a University Lecturer at the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE).

Expertise areas: Banking · Banking regulation · Financial stability

Current research: My current research focuses on the effects of monetary policy on banks, bank risk-taking, and financial stability. I am particularly interested in understanding how central bank actions influence financial institutions and the wider banking system. I am also the founder of the Significant Bank Database, a research database on European banks that supports empirical research on banking and financial stability.

Selected outputs: Author of peer-reviewed studies on the role of cooperative and savings banks in Western European banking systems, the relationship between asset liquidity and bank stability, and issues related to banking regulation and financial stability. My research contributes to understanding how policy and institutional factors shape the resilience of banking systems.

Collaboration: Open to research collaborations, thesis supervision, and media enquiries related to banking, banking regulation, bank risk, and financial stability. jari-mikko.merilainen@jyu.fi
