Biography

I work at the Department of History and Ethnology as a PhD candidate. In my dissertation, I study the development of Finnish vocational education system and the actors who influenced it in the early 20th century. It is important to study the history of education since education is always linked to other social issues, such as debates on equality, social structures and the economy. By studying the history of vocational education, we gain also broader understanding of the processes that (vocational) education is facing today.

I am actively part of Hela's research focus Well-being, Sustainability and Education.

In addition to my work with dissertation, I work as the editorial assistant of the journal Kasvatus & Aika, as an editor in the journal Koulu ja Menneisyys, and I am a member of the steering group of the Network for the History and Philosophy of Education. I also teach occasionally at the Department of History and Ethnology.

Research interests

My research interests are in the history of education, the history of childhood and youth, and social history more broadly.
