Biography

I am a PhD candidate in Cultural Policy at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. My research interests include culture and sustainability, ecosystemic approaches to culture, Capitals of Culture, cultural citizenship and participation, working life realities and conditions in the arts and cultural sector, as well as the societal role of arts and culture. I am specifically interested in contributing to North-South exchange and dialogue in cultural policy research, in particular between the Nordics and Latin America.

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Arts Management from the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki and a Bachelor's degree in Cultural Management from Humak University of Applied Sciences. I have also worked for over a decade in various roles in the arts, cultural, and event sectors and served as a board member in cultural and scientific associations.

Research interests

My PhD research studies the relationship between culture and sustainability in the context of international Capital of Culture programmes and cultural policy. I focus on the European Capital of Culture and the Ibero-American Capital of Cultures. My approach is ecosystemic which means that I focus on the various relations, interconnections, and interdependences that are connected to sustainability issues and solutions within and beyond the cultural ecosystem. The ecosystemic approach helps to rethink conceptualisations of culture and sustainability in broader and more pluralistic and inclusive ways than Western- and anthropocentric perspectives allow.
