Juhani Rautopuro
Biography
I am Professor Emeritus at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER) and I also have a title of docent (Adjunct Professor, Evaluation of Education) of Educational Evaluationsments, risks of educational exclusion, and criterion-based student assessment.
I have worked at the FIER as the head of the Educational Systems and Society research area, where I was responsible for international comparative assessment studies (e.g., PISA, PIRLS, and TIMSS). Previously, I worked at the National Board of Education's Learning Outcomes Assessment Unit, the National Education Evaluation Center (Karvi), and the University of Joensuu (now the University of Eastern Finland).
I have served on several expert groups, including as a member of the National Board of Education's working group on reforming the criteria for final assessments in basic education and on research steering groups. I have also served as Finland's representative to the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). I have published numerous scientific and popular articles and book chapters and actively participated in international and national science events as a presenter and keynote speaker.
