Biography
I am a doctoral researcher in English at the Department of Language and Communication Studies. My research examines the interactional mechanics of communication in technology-mediated English as a lingua franca contexts. More specifically, I explore how participants in Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programmes collaborate on pedagogical tasks, take stances toward one another, and use membership categorisation practices to make themselves and others understood. My work draws on conversation analysis and membership categorisation analysis to investigate how identity is accomplished in interaction. More broadly, I am interested in designing and facilitating COILs for higher education students, particularly as a way to support intercultural communication, collaborative learning, and team-based interaction. My current research interests include interactional practices in technology-mediated environments involving human participants and human-AI communication.
