I serve as a Professor of Economics and the Vice Dean for research and innovation activities at JSBE.
I study how education shapes employment opportunities and health, and how job loss affects the economic and mental well-being of individuals and their families. My research uses Finnish register data to address questions in education policy, labour economics and public health.

Current projects
- Finnish Infrastructure for Register-Based Research (FIRE, 2025–2028): FIRE develops remote access, application services and training for register-based research. I lead the University of Jyväskylä subconsortium and the Education and Training task. The infrastructure is funded by the Research Council of Finland and coordinated by the University of Turku
- Education, economic well-being, and mental health: Supported by the OP Research Foundation, Finnish Cultural Foundation and Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation, I investigate the relationships between education, economic well-being, and mental health (including prescription opioid use).
