Biography

PhD (Education) Minni Matikainen researches transformative learning processes in teacher education.

Research interests

My name is Minni Matikainen, and I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Jyväskylä's Department of Teacher Education. In addition to my work, I produce the Kasvata mua podcast and am a member of Kasvatustiedefoorumi. I hold a PhD in education, and before that I graduated as a class teacher and a subject teacher in Ethics. In addition, I have also studied philosophy, psychology, and physical education as minor subjects.

In my work, I study teacher learning and, in particular, learning processes that change people's meaning systems and ways of thinking in teacher education. This type of learning is called transformative learning. In transformative learning processes, learners not only acquire new knowledge and skills, but their entire worldview and way of operating in the world changes. In teacher education, the process can also be described as "growing as a teacher." And what could be more important question in teacher education than what kind of teachers we "grow" and educate?
