Toni Hukkanen
Biography
I am responsible for the teaching of mathematical subjects at the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics. My goal is to strengthen students' mathematical and technical proficiency in the field of business and economics by providing a comprehensive foundation in mathematics, statistics, and spreadsheet software-knowledge that supports their subsequent studies. I strive to offer instruction that is accessible and easy to understand, as well as learning opportunities that are as flexible as possible.
My academic background includes a PhD in Mathematics (2006) and a Master of Science in Economics (2022). Furthermore, I have an extensive background in statistics, information technology, physics, and chemistry. I also hold a formal pedagogical qualification for teachers and possess long-standing experience in teaching at the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics, as well as previously at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä.
My teaching consists of general courses for first-year students designed to strengthen foundational mathematical skills:
- JSBY1210 Brush up your Mathematics
- JSBY1220 Mathematics for Business and Economics 1 (also part of the international Bachelor’s degree programme)
- JSBY1230 Mathematics for Business and Economics 2
Courses supporting proficiency in statistical methods and technical skills:
- JSBY1250 Spreadsheets and Databases
- JSBY1260 Quantitative Methods and SPSS
As well as an intermediate-level course introducing economic methods, specifically tailored for economics students:
- KTTA1220 Mathematical Economics
I am also happy to provide guidance in these areas. If you need support with mathematical problems, please do not hesitate to contact me at toni.k.hukkanen@jyu.fi
