Biography

I am a Social Health Scientist grounded in the disciplines of Global Health (PhD) focusing on Health Systems, Public Health (MPH) and Bioethics (MA). Currently I am a Senior Researcher under the Department of History and Ethnography, Jyvaskyla University. I am also a Senior Lecturer (Honorary) under the Department of Health Systems and Policy, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), Malawi.

Broadly, my research interests are in health systems strengthening, focusing on improving equitable access to health services among underserved, marginalized and vulnerable populations in Malawi. In collaboration with international and local colleagues, I have characterized HIV burden, estimated population sizes, assessed prevention needs and access to health care services among men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender persons, female sex workers and people who inject drugs in Malawi. I have also worked on research projects aimed at improving access to eye care services; musculoskeletal impairment services among children and repurposing of and access to Insecticide treated bed nets in rural fishing communities in Malawi and access to COVID 19 care among prisoners and wardens.

As a Senior Lecturer and Researcher, I am actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing, research supervision and mentorship of students, development of curricula, member of nstitutional research ethics committee at KUHeS and engage in community outreach.

Research interests

Broadly, my research interests are in health systems strengthening, focusing on improving equitable access to health services among underserved, marginalized and vulnerable populations in Malawi and the SADC region in Africa. My collaborative research efforts in the area of HIV have led to changes in HIV policy and programming over the years to include marginalized key populations.
